| Staff Twelve culturally diverse and experienced pharmacists and thirteen pharmacy technicians staff the department of pharmacy. These are self-motivated and vibrant professionals who consistently challenge and support each other and are committed to provide quality pharmaceutical care to the patients. Vanria Rolle, Chief of Pharmacy On secondment to COB as Coordinator of Allied Health Program rolle@rxpmhbahamas.com A 1974 graduate of University of Florida with Bachelors Degree in Pharmacy, Mrs. Rolle practiced pharmacy for 27 years first in a community setting and currently in a hospital setting. She has held several managerial positions before joining the staff in 1996 at the Department of Pharmacy, Princess Margaret Hospital. Her Masters in Health Care Administration from Western Connecticut State University gave her cutting edge in managing the busiest and most challenging pharmacy. She brings to the service a wealth of knowledge and experience in pharmacy practice management, clinical trials, research and continuing education planning. She delivered numerous presentations nationally and internationally on leadership in pharmacy. Currently she is seconded to the College of The Bahamas as a Coordinator. This secondment is about an allied health professions initiative from the Ministry of Health that includes Pharmacy, Med Lab Technology, Rehabilitative Services and Dietetics. She was elected Second Vice President of Caribbean Association of Pharmacists, a leading pharmacy professional organization in the region. Mrs. Rolle is Doctoral candidate in Pharmacy at University of Florida. Chena Scott, Deputy Chief of Pharmacy Acting Chief scott@rxpmhbahamas.com Ms. Scott is an experienced pharmacist, having worked in many settings from mail order pharmacy, hospital pharmacy to the tertiary institution both in United States and in The Bahamas. After graduating in 1996 from Nova Southeastern University, she held various positions in hospital and community pharmacy in the United States. She joined Department of Pharmacy in 1997 as Clinical Coordinator and later took a position of Deputy Chief of Pharmacy. She combines her strong clinical background and experience in providing clinical services and managing staff and daily operations of the department. She represents the pharmacy on various committees throughout the hospital and currently she is Secretary of the Pharmacy and Therapeutic committee. Ms. Scott attended several national and international conferences and made presentations in them. She is instrumental in developing and coordinating department’s Investigational Drug Service. She made an outstanding contribution to the clinical trial of HIV/AIDS drugs and providing pharmaceutical care to the HIV/AIDS patients. She is Doctoral candidate in Pharmacy at University of Florida. Fredrick Trim, Senior Pharmacy Manager trim@rxpmhbahamas.com Mr. Trim graduated from University of Guyana in 1985. He brings 20 years of pharmacy experience in areas such as IV Admixture and parenteral nutrition and hospital pharmacy. He was a male nurse in Guyana before he switched to pharmacy. He started his professional career as a hospital pharmacist. He was inspector at Pharmacy and Poisons Board in Guyana for 5 years before he joined the current position. Mr. Trim interests include development of effective relationships with vendors, improved efficiencies in distribution system, and advancement of professional practices by and for Pharmacy personnel. His other responsibilities include overseeing the outpatient pharmacy service, purchasing of drug and its distribution, inventory management etc. He also supervise assigned staff by performing the full scope of supervisory responsibilities such performance evaluations and disciplinary actions. He is responsible for liaison with Bahamas National Drug Agency and pharmaceutical wholesalers, management of the goods and services and liaison with other health care providers in the hospital. Prashant Sakharkar, Senior Pharmacy Manager prashant@rxpmhbahamas.com Prashant is responsible for the day-to-day operations, planning and development, staff training and education. His primary role is to organize and coordinate a various continuous education program. Prashant’s responsibilities include management of pharmacy information systems and automation as well as drug policy services. His administrative interests include effective use of technology in health care, clinical pharmacy services and mentoring/leadership. His particular interest in computers has involved him in managing Management Information System. He also liaises with Medical Representatives, Management Information System Unit at Public Hospital Authority, and Business Office at hospital. His other responsibilities include ensuring the needs of patients and professional staff is being adequately met by the pharmaceutical service provided and to supervise and manage any pharmacist and other staff assigned to him. He graduated in 1993 from Nagpur University in India and held university teaching position before joining the department. On daily basis, Prashant is involved in the departmental roster and provides clinical services to the critical care unit. Currently he is Doctoral candidate in Pharmacy with University of Florida. Daniel Kwofie, Pharmacy Manager IV admixture and Parenteral Nutrition danny@rxpmhbahamas.com Daniel worked in managed care pharmacy in Caribbean for four years before joining this department. After gaining clinical experience in all units of the hospital, Daniel settled in providing pharmaceutical care to the Neonatal and Special Care Baby Unit. Daniel has 4 years of intensive experience in IV Admixture and providing Parenteral Nutrition Support to Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Special Care Baby Unit. Parenteral nutrition admixtures represent one of the most complex pharmaceutical formulations prepared by the pharmacist on a daily basis. Its IV delivery to the central circulation requires continuous monitoring with regard to sterility, compatibility and the stability of the final admixture. Daniel graduated from University of Camagüey in Cuba in the year 1995. Currently he is enrolled in Working Professional Pharm. D. Program with University of Florida Martin Danaa, Pharmacy Manager Oncology Services martin@rxpmhbahamas.com Martin served as the first oncology pharmacist, when oncology pharmacy services opened at Princess Margaret Hospital. Since then Martin is instrumental in developing and managing oncology pharmacy services. Martin plays a significant role in a cancer patient's treatment by dispensing not just the prescription, but most valuable information to the patient throughout their therapy, including side-effect counseling and management, proper handling techniques, and nevertheless compassion. He graduated from the University of Camagüey in Cuba in the year 1998. His keen interests are drug interventions and oncology pharmacy; he has developed clinical skills in drug interventions and also assists the department in training pharmacy technicians. He has three years of experience in oncology pharmacy and is presently looking forward to complete his board certification in oncology. Maureen Wharton, Pharmacy Manager Drug Inventory Management maureen@rxpmhbahamas.com Maureen brings 23 years of pharmacy experience in maintaining the department’s drug inventory. She graduated in 1982 from University of Guyana and started her professional career in hospital pharmacy, then switch to retail pharmacy and later moved to the Medical Benefit Scheme (MBS), a statutory entity in Antigua. She worked seven years for MBS before embarking on the current job. Maureen holds B.Sc. in Management Studies and Certification in Business Administration from the University of The West Indies. She perfectly manages the inventory, monitor purchasing, receiving, stocking and return/recall of all drugs and pharmacy supplies. She also participates in comprehensive quality improvement activities and drug use management programs as directed by the Chief of Pharmacy. Maureen is also responsible for maintaining and monitoring records for credits, returns and outdated drugs from various units. William Jeffrey, Pharmacy Manager Out-patient Services william@rxpmhbahamas.com William’s responsibilities include supervising the ambulatory care pharmacy and the training of pharmacy technicians. He has many years of experience in community, industrial and academic pharmacy. His Interests include automation in the ambulatory care setting, patient education, and increased utilization of pharmacy technicians. He is responsible for outpatient pharmacy services and maintaining paper and automated records of prescriptions. William monitors drug therapy, monitors clinically significant drug interactions, adverse reactions, therapeutic duplications, drug dosage and compliance with prescription orders. He is also responsible for training pharmacy technicians. William graduated from University of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1982. He started his professional career in community pharmacy and then switched to academic pharmacy. He served as a Head, Department of Pharmacy at University of Guyana for 15 years and was a Coordinator of Pharmacy Technology Program at Success Training College in the Bahamas. He has two publications to his credit, one of which includes the PAHO/WHO Study titled ‘Procurement, Quality control, Distribution of Pharmaceuticals in Guyana’. William also earned a postgraduate diploma in education from University of Guyana. He was Vice President of Caribbean Association of Pharmacists from 1995 to 2000. William is the recent addition to the department. Adesupo Osunbade, Pharmacy Manager Patient Education ade@rxpmhbahamas.com Ade is responsible for dispensing medications and performing clinical functions related to medication use. He is also responsible for the safe use of medications and adherence to the health professional regulations related to the practice of pharmacy. His essential job functions are focused on customer satisfaction, effective use of resources, drug education to patients and health care providers. Ade graduated in 1998 from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife in Nigeria. He is a member of various international pharmaceutical organizations. He also holds the certification in computer information systems. Ade ‘s major interest includes the development of clinical research environment and quality pharmaceutical care services. Stephanie Mullings, Pharmacy Manager In-patient Services stephanie@rxpmhbahamas.com Stephanie’s responsibilities include providing both clinical and distributive services to patients though In-patient pharmacy services, pharmacy-based drug dosing services and performing clinical interventions. A 1996 graduate of University of Technology, Jamaica, Stephanie worked as a pharmacy intern at two public hospitals in Jamaica. She gained four years of experience in working at managed care pharmacy and hospital pharmacy. She becomes part of the Department of Pharmacy staff in 2002. Her areas of interest mainly include pharmacy administration, infectitious disease drug management and diabetic care. Currently she is enrolled with Australian College of Clinical Pharmacy and taking Pharmacotherapy course and a member of American Pharmacists Association. Carlese Henry, Pharmacy Manager Pharmaceutical Manufacturing and Compounding and Drug Information carlese@rxpmhbahamas.com Carlese graduated from University of Technology, Jamaica in 1994. She has 6 years of experience in retail and community pharmacy and 5 years in hospital pharmacy. She is certified compounding pharmacist and holds certification in veterinary pharmacy too. Carlese provides valuable services to the physicians and patients through customizing medication. Her ultimate goal in preparing these is to help the physician and patient to achieve maximum convenience and compliance with their medication. She is managing the department’s Drug Information Services. Currently she is Pharm. D. candidate with Ohio State University. Frank Lachmansingh, Pharmacy Manager Satellite Private Pharmacy frank@rxpmhbahamas.com Frank graduated from University of Guyana in 1990. He started practicing pharmacy as hospital pharmacist at Davis Memorial Hospital in Guyana. He gained three years of experience in pharmaceutical marketing while he worked at T. Geddes Grant Ltd, a pharmaceutical wholesaler. Later he moved to his family business of retail pharmacy. His family business of pharmacy inspired him to pursue pharmacy as a profession. He spent four years in retail and community pharmacy setting before taking the current job. He brings a wealth of knowledge; experience of community pharmacy and excellent patient communication skills to runs the department’s satellite pharmacy. He also monitors narcotic and controlled drug dispensing and ensures the security of controlled substances. Pharmacy Technicians The department has seven certified pharmacy technicians with pharmacy experience ranging from few months to ten years. Ms. Sanderia is trained technician in preparation of IV admixture and parenteral nutrition. Ms. Candice and Ms. Marie manage the drugstore while Ms. Rosemary looks after the staff prescription services. Recently joined and other technicians are undergoing training and preparing for their pharmacy technician certification.
